Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words. Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it. Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel. Jeremiah 18:2-6

I recently heard an old song entitled, “the Makings of You.” Needless to say that it immediately spoke to my spirit. I must admit that I’ve not known the words to the song but always loved the melody. So, I looked up the lyrics and these words in particular stood out for me as it connects to what the Lord was relaying to me, “I believe I thought I told you so, you're second to none. Love of all mankind should reflect some sign of the words I'm trying to recite. They're close, but not quite; almost impossible to do, describing (characterizing or explaining) the makings of you.” In short, the words spoke volumes to me because over the years I have asked constantly, "Lord, what’cha doing, why or how come?” Thus finally realizing that it really is all too much for me to attain at any one sitting. However, this has allowed me to just give in to His leading, His moving and learn how to go with His flow. Which I might add has been difficult for me. Oh, but you gotta love Him and I've expressed repeatedly over the years, how I love the way He loves me ... in such unique ways!

The Lord made me not only consciously, but visibly aware by showing me bits of tangible evidence of what He’s doing in my life. These indications have allowed me to “see” clearer than ever before, as well as trust like never before. Certainly, I know the Lord has taken very careful, deliberate and precise preparation in the makings of me; especially in the past 6 months. When I begin to meditate on how specific and strategic His direction has been, I’m astounded by His attention to the smallest of details that pertain to my life, even to the hand-selection of people He has allowed to bless me mightily in word and in deed. All for His kingdom. The past 8 days has given me another glimpse at the wonder that is God and how He gave intricate details to the makings of nature and all His creation. Can you take a moment and ponder on how much more attention to detail He gives to us, His children, to be used for His service? I wasn’t sure where to start writing today because there was much to share, but please know that the title and especially the scripture, speaks loudly even for me. It is the heartfelt emotion, passion and inspiration that drives me today. I can’t properly convey or articulate the peace or the joy that my heart feels and accompanies my state of mind. It reminds me that "the peace of God, which passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” The Lord has truly shown me His grace and favor; allowing me to witness the shaping, molding and the makings of me.

Now, makings defined is the potential, or the qualities required to become a particular thing or the necessary ingredients needed; the creativity activity or something that causes success of someone; and my favorite, the progress of being made, formed or developed. In order for the Lord to effectively develop us for purpose, He has to take a careful and executed hand to shape and mold us. He knows exactly what's needed to create the perfect vessel for His purpose. Just enough water for ease in the gentle molding and unique shaping. More importantly, we have to be willing to stay on the potter’s wheel until we are the vessel that He is creating us to be. Just enough heat, offering the element that nature uses to eliminate impurities within vessel. Even if that means we have to stay on the wheel a bit longer or need to go back on the wheel for reshaping or remolding; or even be repaired from being weathered, worn or damaged by flying debris. The word for today confirms this by saying, “And the vessel that he made of clay was marred (blemished, disfigured, stained, or flawed) in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it. Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter?” Whatever it takes, for the making of us and as it seems good to Him.

God has always had the power and authority to form and fashion not only kingdoms and nations of the world as he pleases, but the power and the authority to do the same with us. The scripture also tells us to “arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words. Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought (fashioned, shaped, formed, or created) a work on the wheels.” That could have been a subtopic had I needed one, “a work on the wheel.” We are just that, a work on the wheel being shaped, formed and molded to His perfection; to His liking for His glory.

It would not be to our benefit to have a difference of opinion about this (this one I know well). How would this be our gain if we did? It may not feel good while going through the process but God knows what we need and honestly, He knows what He desires in the vessel’s look and appearance… a vessel of honor and a vessel that He can take pride in and know that this vessel "I've created will bring glory to My name".

I don’t know what the Lord is doing with you and I don’t know what He desires your vessel to accomplish; I don’t know what He will do in the makings of you. But I do know, there is a purpose for it in order to accomplish a work through you. So let Him who has begun a good work in you, perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. We are never too broken, chipped, cracked or marred that the Lord can’t repair and restore us while we are journeying. He wants to do a work in us, through us and for us in order that others might be blessed. Allow Him to do what He specializes in… being the Potter. Just be the clay that’s moldable, fixable, shapeable, and usable. Think on this scripture, it has made all the difference in my walk over the years as God has been shaping and molding me for His purpose, “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works (Psalm 139:14)!”

Counting it all joy, the makings of me!

Until the morning, be blessed,
Cynde
